Promise History
1.04.02 - Temporarily remove the provincial sales tax (PST) on new multi-unit housing construction projects to help encourage the development of affordable housing – something other Atlantic provinces have already done.

We consider this promise to be fulfilled, given that this tax has indeed been eliminated for multiple-unit rental housing for constructions started after November 15, 2024
“We have also been working to help tackle the housing crisis by removing the HST off eligible purpose-built multi-unit rental housing that started on or after November 15, 2024.”

In light of this new information, we prefer to consider that this promise is on the way to being fulfilled. When the withdrawal of this tax is actually implemented for consumers, we will consider this promise as kept.

“The New Brunswick government, in collaboration with the federal government, is set to introduce an HST rebate program aimed at boosting the construction of purpose-built rental housing. The program will apply to projects initiated between November 15, 2024, and December 31, 2027, with completion by December 31, 2029.”

Traces of this promise can be found in the mandate letter addressed to the Minister of Finance, René Legacy. Since mandate letters outline the objectives that each appointed minister is expected to fulfill during their term, we consider this promise to be ‘in progress.’”
