3.10.004 - “A re-elected Liberal government will: Move forward on our plan to launch a pilot program next year that will provide rent supplements and wrap-around supports to homeless Veterans, so that they can get the housing and services they need.”

With this new program, the government is implementing its plan to launch a pilot program to offer support to homeless veterans. However, the promise has been partially fulfilled, as the program was launched in April 2023. The wording of the promise indicated a one-year deadline for completion.
“Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence and Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre announced $79.1 million in funding for the new Veteran Homelessness Program. // This program will provide housing supports and services to veterans experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. The Government of Canada is committed to ending chronic homelessness among veterans, and this new program is a significant step towards achieving that goal.”

“Budget 2021 announced $45 million for a pilot program aimed at reducing veteran homelessness. To ensure that long-term support is in place, the government now intends to move directly to the launch of a targeted program.”
