Croatia - Transposition of the EU Directive on Whistleblowing

The Government of the Republic of Croatia has adopted the Plan of legislative activities for 2021 which foresees amendments to the whistleblowing act to be adopted in the third trimester of the upcoming year. These amendments are also foreseen by the Plan of harmonization of legislation with the acquis communautaire for 2021 which was determined in the same Government’s session.

As the institution responsible for external reporting of irregularities, in July 2020 the Croatian Ombudsman joined the Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA) whose basic objectives are encouraging cooperation of state institutions in this field at European level and enabling consistent application of EU Directive 2019/1937 on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law.
