Promise History
2.11.07 - “Over the next decade, a re-elected PC government will […] build and expand public transit, including […]: the new Ontario Line subway”
16-Jul-2024
During their first term, the Ford government announced that they had broken ground on the Ontario Line development. In the 2023 Budget, the Province indicated that work is already underway at Exhibition station, and that major contracts have been awarded. Work continues, and in July 2024, ground was broken at Pape station, one of the Ontario Line interchanges. This promise remains in progress.
“The Ontario government has officially broken ground at Pape Station, marking the start of construction to build a new interchange station connecting the Ontario Line with the TTC’s Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth). The new subway line will deliver better, faster and more reliable transit throughout the Greater Toronto Area, relieving gridlock on roads and the existing transit network.”

“In November 2022, the government marked a major milestone in its plan to deliver faster and better transit for the GTA by awarding two major contracts for the Ontario Line. […] Early works construction is already underway at Exhibition Station and in the joint corridor west of the Don River. Awarding these contracts brings Ontario another step closer to delivering a world-class transit system for the GTA.”
