2.11.35 - “[A] re-elected PC government will […] fast-track five new transmission lines to Windsor and southwestern Ontario”
03-Nov-2023
The Ford government announced the development of the transmission lines in April 2022. The project will be completed in phases over the next eight years. In November 2023, Hydro One announced that the first of these lines, the Chatham to Lakeshore Tranmission Line, is on track to be completed by the end of 2024. This promise and the related promise to fast-track the lines (see more here) are in progress while the lines are being built.
“Construction began in spring 2023 on the 49-kilometre, 230-kilovolt line between Chatham Switching Station in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the new Lakeshore Transformer Station in the Municipality of Lakeshore. This new transmission line is part of a network of infrastructure projects across southwest Ontario and the next step of a multi-phase approach that will unlock the electrification potential of Ontario’s economy. The line is now anticipated to be in service by December 2024. “
