The 2022 Quebec general election held on October 3, 2022 resulted in a second decisive victory for the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), led by François Legault. The CAQ won 90 of the 125 seats in the National Assembly, 16 more than in 2018, with 40.98% of the popular vote.

2.03.12 - “A re-elected CAQ government] will make contributions to the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) optional for workers aged 65 and over in order to counter the labour shortage. […] This measure represents a savings of up to $3,000 per year. It will not result in any increase in contributions for other workers or employers”

Justification

Effective January 1, 2024.

“In this budget, the government is announcing changes to be made to the QPP that will come into effect on January 1, 2024 to encourage job retention for workers aged 65 or over, namely: // the option to discontinue contributions to the QPP for people aged 65 or over who are receiving a retirement pension; // the introduction of pension protection for workers aged 65 or over earning less than their career average earnings”
