Throughout its term, the Trudeau government has invested many times for official language minority communities, and this last major investment concretize its engagement.
“Today, the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, announced a major investment of more than $18.3 million in four innovative programs to help young Francophones reach their full potential. Minister Boissonnault was accompanied by the Honourable Mona Fortier, Member of Parliament (Ottawa–Vanier). This funding for la Fédération culturelle canadienne-française (FCCF), la Fédération de la jeunesse canadienne-française (FJCF), schools and community organizations will allow these organizations to come together to jointly offer a wide range of cultural, artistic and social activities to elementary and secondary school students. These activities are aimed at strengthening their sense of belonging to the Francophone community, while helping their personal and academic development.”

It is recognized as a stronghold of the Acadian and Francophone community in Prince Edward Island.”

The Trudeau government has funded a number of school and community center renovation and construction projects, including the renovation of École Saint-Claude, the construction of École Évangéline, the renovation of Collège Boréal in Sturgeon Falls, and the acquisition of spaces for the Maison de la Francophonie de Victoria and the francophone organization Les EssentiElles.

Through these investments, the Government is contributing to the vitality of official language minority communities by supporting the construction, renovation and redevelopment of educational spaces at the University of Ottawa.
“Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, along with the Honourable Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament (Ottawa–Vanier), announced an investment along with the Government of Ontario of more than $34.7 million for the University of Ottawa for five projects supporting French-language post-secondary education. […] The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of having the proper infrastructure for programs targeting official language minority communities. This project aims to modernize the space and equipment required for four new teaching spaces in the nursing sciences simulation laboratory, the virtual reality and immersive training laboratory, the nutrition science teaching laboratory and the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Teaching Laboratory.”

The Government of Canada is announcing that it will fund a feasibility study to target the demands of Francophones in Toronto regarding community services.
“Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced nearly $100,000 in funding for the Centre francophone de Toronto to carry out a feasibility study. The study will allow the centre to analyse the need for additional community space to meet the growing demand for services. // The Government of Canada’s investment in this study will allow the centre to accomplish great things, including: Consult key partners and stakeholders for the establishment of a community space for Francophones in Toronto; Identify the needs of the Francophone community; Determine if the construction of a hub with additional community space will solve the access issues; Determine possible options for the development of a community space in Toronto; Identify potential sources of revenue for the project.”

“The federal and provincial governments have announced an investment of $7.1 million to support the vitality of the French language in post-secondary institutions in Saskatchewan. Among other things, the projects will help stabilize and consolidate Francophone post-secondary programs at the University of Regina’s La Cité universitaire francophone and Collège Mathieu in Saskatchewan.// Of the funds allocated, more than $3.5 million will be used to support high-quality post-secondary education in the minority language. More than $1 million will also be allocated to renovate the De Mazenot Building at Collège Mathieu and to restore classrooms, lecture halls and the library.” (Traduction)”

« Il n’y a rien [sur les langues officielles] et c’est très surprenant, car c’était quand même une promesse importante durant la campagne électorale et c’était une promesse qui allait se mettre en place rapidement. On voulait agir et ça faisait déjà plusieurs années qu’à peu près tous les intervenants dans le milieu francophone hors Québec disaient : “C’est assez d’attendre, agissons”. Tous les partis semblaient sensibles à cette question. Et là, on se rend compte que, dans le budget, il n’y a rien pour la francophonie ni pour les francophones hors Québec. […] C’est décevant alors que ce sont des sommes qui ne sont pas si importantes, si on les compare à d’autres postes budgétaires. »
